Take RMDs from tax deferred accounts

On Settings, I unchecked "Take RMDs from tax deferred accounts" expecting the portfolio to gain value, but the account value went down dramatically. Wondering why this box is even here since RMDs from deferred account is a sure thing. I have qualified annuity income that kicks in and covers the RMDs...

I put my IRA into Tax Def Portfolio and put in an additional input of a 3% rate of return. Starting age 64, taking nothing till RMDs. Txs,, this is making things clearer. Think the first aha is that the "Taxable Account" designation, in reality it should be "Maybe Taxable Account", since depends on the basis of the asset on withdrawals.. Though taxable account is the common term... Is there a way to represent the cash in the Taxab...
