Re: Error message: Unable to run simulation because of invalid data in additional inputs

Thanks. One other minor suggestion.... Your Start Age and End Age fields use a drop-down list for input. But in many cases, all I want is to enter one age, like 70, 75, etc. It would be a lot easier to enter the ages into a simple numeric input field rather than a drop-down list requiring scrolling ...

Re: Error message: Unable to run simulation because of invalid data in additional inputs

Jim: Maybe I could throw out the text of the entry that caused the problem. Other possibilities: - explicitly number the rows in the additional inputs, so that the error message could refer to a specific row. - be a little more specific about what the error is, such as "A row in Additional Inpu...

Re: Error message: Unable to run simulation because of invalid data in additional inputs

I've seen this error on multiple occasions. But the most recent time was when I changed the life expectancy on the main page. I eventually did figure out the problem, but it was not obvious because the error message indicated that the problem was with the additional inputs, and it did not occur to m...

Error message: Unable to run simulation because of invalid data in additional inputs

I've sometimes gotten this message. But I have a number of rows in my additional inputs, and the program does not point me to a specific row. Is there any way to narrow it down?

That would be a useful enhancement.

Thanks.

Re: Don't understand tax calculations on withdrawals (1 of 2)

I reran the test and got correct results. What I might have done is: use Manage to create a new scenario named Test. I was careful not to check the Duplicate Data from... button. But it's possible that I then did my testing in Scenario 1, rather than changing to Test. I suspect the problem was relat...

Re: Don't understand tax calculations on withdrawals (1 of 2)

OK, I'll take a more careful look. The 12,587 figure is what I figured out manually and what I would have expected. I started with a new scenario with everything zeroed out, but not a new file. Is it possible that some of my additional inputs were taken into the same scenario? I zeroed out everythin...

Re: Don't understand tax calculations on withdrawals (1 of 2)

(Continued) Additional withdrawal with taxes = 49,999. (As far as I can tell, this is the total withdrawal, not the *additional* withdrawal - since the portfolio value is reduced by 50,000 in the next year.) I don't understand where the 19,999 comes from. My tax rate is 30%. As far as I can tell, th...

Don't understand tax calculations on withdrawals (1 of 2)

[I tried submitting this post and got the message "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." No further explanation. Maybe the post is too long. I'll try breaking it in two.] I'm trying to figure out how the tax calculations work. In my test run, taxes seem too high. I did a s...

How should I interpret "age N"?

When I'm entering a recurring cash flow (income, expense), what's the best way to think about it? For example, if I'm planning to retire at my 70th birthday, and planning to work in retirement until I reach my 75th birthday, I think should enter that as a Misc Income cash flow, with Start Year = Age...
