Social Security Taxable Amount
I am trying to understand the taxation of social security benefits and the best option for entering the "taxable amount" on the additional inputs screen. As an example, let's say we get $30,000 from a pension, and $20,000 from social security with no other income. This should put our "...

How to Model Proportional Distributions?
I was reading an article on withdrawing a little bit from each portfolio type, rather than the traditional Taxable First, then Tax Deferred, then Tax Free: https://www.fidelity.com/viewpoints/retirement/tax-savvy-withdrawals Is there any way to model something like this in FRP? I only saw options to...

Income Tax Rate - Effective Tax Rate?
For the "Income Tax Rate" field, I assume this is my effective tax rate and not my marginal tax bracket? If so, I have seen two different methods used to calculate the effective tax rate. One divides the total tax by the "taxable" income (after standard deduction). In my case thi...

How to Model Selective Withdrawals
Let's say I have 60% of my portfolio in stocks (maybe VTSAX) and 40% in bonds (VBTLX). Is there a way to model selling only the bonds when the stock market has a major decline? Then rebalance when the market recovers?

Re: Manually Set Start Date?
Yeah, I tried that, but couldn't wrap my head around the differences between real ages and future ages. Oh well, next year will be here soon enough.

Manually Set Start Date?
Is there any way to manually set the start date for the simulation?
It seems FRP always starts with the current date. I couldn't figure out a way to run simulations in the future with account values I expected at that time (instead of what FRP calculates from todays values)

Re: Set a Minimum Balance for Taxable Savings?
I don't understand the intricate details of the internal functions, but my results seem to be spot on with the previous version. So, I suppose that's a good thing. Thanks for the ongoing support! FRP is still the best retirement planning software I have used.

Re: Set a Minimum Balance for Taxable Savings?
Do you have assets in your tax deferred and tax free portfolios in addition to the taxable portfolio? I don't have a tax free portfolio, but I do have tax deferred with $6480 added annually (traditional IRA). I specified a custom 6% return with 6% deviation on the main screen (lower than what I'm a...

Re: Set a Minimum Balance for Taxable Savings?
You can specify separate rates of return for taxable, tax deferred, and tax free accounts using additional inputs. That said, I recommend extreme caution in using this feature because there are some subtleties in setting this up that might not be obvious. We have a high interest online savings acco...

Re: Set a Minimum Balance for Taxable Savings?
Since gains are calculated before savings are added back in, I think you won't get 'credit' for earnings on your taxable savings. Out of curiosity, instead of changing the Annual Retirement Spending on the main screen, could it be done by adding a negative value (-5000) for tax deferred, and a posi...
