I went back and forth with the 3% setting, but accept it now as the best guess.
Also check the sensitivity analysis feature. I set Annual Retirement Spending to $60,000 minimum and $90,000 maximum. Then enter 2.0% and 8.0% for inflation rate. Just one more way of testing possible outcomes.

Re: Documentation explaining how column values are derived
It helps to make a copy of your tables and paste to a spreadsheet. Then add a blank row above the headings, and keep notes there to explain how calculations work. Go to Detailed View, Show More Detail, and right click on the headings to Show All Columns. Copy or export that to capture the text (righ...

Re: What's the right number for inflation and inflation standard deviation?
This thread provided a day or two of thought for me. All I can say is thanks! Maybe 3.0% is too high an average. Only the future will tell us.

Re: Here is what I find amazing...
I have nothing but positive comments about Flexible Retirement Planner. I always mention FRP when I see comments on a certain board about planning software. In social media forums a certain amount of group-think can develop. And of course if a board's overall theme is a specific planning tool, recom...

Re: Dividend Income instead of portfolio withdrawal
I think FRP might help you generate the numbers for a further analysis in your spreadsheet program. I'd set up another file to do this, and not mess with current setup. The file would just have the isolated dividend-only accounts. Enter a custom return and std dev. Maybe that would be very low growt...

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
Thanks Jim.
I realize I don't know enough accounting and will try to understand the workings of FRP better.
I was confused by the labels on some columns as they suggest some relation to US tax forms. But I was making an assumption there.

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
I'm using the 04.04.01 beta, and ran 3 different cases. One has 0k conversion, other two are 20K and 40K. For each case I run, and then look at Detail with All Columns Unhidden. I see the correct amount of Roth conversion and taxes in each case. But the Total Income and Taxable Income do not change....

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
Oh, that makes sense. So then additional input entries for tax rates need to be net effective rates then? Yes. That's correct. All the tax rates used by the planner are effective or average tax rates. The planner doesn't understand the concept of marginal tax rates. Thanks for adding a new feature ...

Re: Column descriptions for Detailed View Table?
:geek: Maybe this can help someone. To better understand the columns and descriptions, I copied the detailed view and pasted that into a spreadsheet. Above each column in the spreadsheet I added a trimmed down description from the online help. For example, above "Median Portfolio Value" I ...

Re: RMD for those attaining age 701/2 after 12.31.2019
There is a potential problem! If you wait until the following year, you end up with two RMDs (72 and 73). That could mess up your Roth conversion strategy, etc. Just an FYI... Mirroring the option available under current rules, individuals will be able to timely distribute their first RMD at any tim...
