Re: Error: Retirement Age Less than Current Age

I can understand that it might be better to be able to show your actual retirement age with that input. However, the simulation doesn't know about years that have already passed and that's why it's saying the retirement age can't be less than current age. The technical reason this check was added is...

Re: Annual Retirement Spending/Inflation

The planner begins adjusting all amounts for inflation from the start of the plan, not from the start of retirement. So there's no need for any manual inflation adjustments.

Re: Accessing FRP website

Thanks. Looks like it needs another restore. It should be back soon.

Ever since I switched to a new inmotion hosting plan this seems to be happening a lot more, but I really don't really know what the cause of it is.

Re: Using FRP During Retirement

I usually run a handful of sort of "roughed in" scenarios, each with different withdrawal amounts and maybe some other assumptions. Then I look at the prob of success for each scenario. For withdrawal amounts, I tend to use round numbers, so instead of $206k, maybe 180k, 200k, 220k, etc. I...

Re: Misc Income and Inflation

All the amounts in that table are shown in present value dollars, so an amount staying the same from year to year is exactly keeping up with inflation. A decreasing amount is an amount that isn't keeping up with inflation and an increasing amount is growing at a rate greater than inflation.

Re: Modeling House Sale

Actually, scratch that last question. The way the net withdrawal is reported when income is greater than expenses is dependent on whether RMDs are happening. If RMDs are not happening, the net withdrawal shows as 0, if RMDs are happening, the net withdrawal shows as the net amount that gets added to...

Re: Using goal seek but with a consistent withdrawal rate

One suggestion is to play around with the other settings to see anything gets you closer to what you're looking for. A few things you might try: 1) set a higher probability of success for goal seek (maybe 95%?) 2) Try adjusting the spending policy floor and ceiling values (maybe 90% floor, 100% ceil...

Re: Using goal seek but with a consistent withdrawal rate

I assume the reason the withdrawal rate gets to 15% is because you specified expenses that require that high of a withdrawal in those years. If that high of withdrawal rate is unrealistic, what would you like the simulation to do differently in those years and how should it decide what's reasonable?...

Re: how to model QCDs?

The planner doesn't handle qualified charitable distributions explicitly, but you could probably model the impact by setting up a negative savings cash flow from the tax deferred portfolio. You can use the memo field to document what the cash flow is for. The ability to do negative savings cash flow...
