Re: RMD Calculations

Unfortunately, the combined deferred assets thing is just a hard limit in the planner. The more I think about it, the more I think doing special tricks/workarounds on this is more likely to confuse things than to help in the end. The more complicated the plan gets, the higher the chances you'll make...

Re: Spouse retirement plan and different age

First, the limitation is that you can't specify which spouse's retirement funds get used at any time. All funds are treated as pooled and any withdrawals needed come from the pooled funds. Although this isn't how things work in reality, in most cases it's an ok simplification. Unfortunately, if you ...

Re: Spouse retirement plan and different age

Sorry, but retirement accounts can't be broken out separately in this planner. The easiest way to handle this is to just enter the total combined balances for both spouse for each retirement account type (eg taxable, tax deferred, tax free). You can break out income amounts for each spouse separatel...

Re: flexibleretirementplanner.com & downloaded version

There's probably a timer on how long the .jnlp launcher will cache the frp.jar that it downloads from the website. I think it's configurable in your Java control panel, but I'm not positive. The whole point of the jnlp launch system retrieving the frp.jar from the hosting website is to ensure you al...

Re: flexibleretirementplanner.com & downloaded version

The FRP program never sends any data to the FRP website under and circumstances. However, whether the FRP website needs to be up to run FRP depends on how you're using the program. If you installed FRP on windows or downloaded it manually and are launching FRP using the frp.jar file, the website doe...

Re: New user with multiple questions

For # 1, I'd suggest adjusting the "taxable percent" field in additional inputs to get to the correct average tax rate for specific income sources that have a lower average tax rate. For example, if you set the taxable percent on an income cash flow to 50%, this will have the effect of cut...

Re: License key disappeared

Thanks for the heads up on this. I haven't heard anyone else mention this, but there could always be some sort of latent corner case bug. FRP uses Java's built-in persistent store feature, so the code for license key storage is pretty trivial on the FRP side. You didn't mention the version you upgra...

Re: RMD & IRMAA

Unfortunately, there isn't any way to do this automatically. You may be able to get a rough approximation of the extra expense by adjusting the income tax rate upwards to account for the extra costs that will be incurred when RMDs are higher, but it'd be a very rough estimate at best. Another approa...

Re: Sensitivity analysis results vs. main simulation results

Do you have any entries in the top window of additional inputs? Either way, I'm happy to take a look at what's going on with your setup if you email the .frp file to info@flexibleretirementplanner.com. IMPORTANT: PLEASE DON'T EMAIL A .FRP FILE THAT CONTAINS YOUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION. BEFOR...
