Re: How to model home in FRP
If the plan is to stay in the home until the end of the plan, there's really no benefit from including the home in the home since there won't be any cash flows from it. OTOH, if you plan to downsize to a smaller home or apartment later in retirement, the best approach is usually to create a one-year...

Re: Withdraw from a specific account
You could use a negative savings cash flow out of the desired portfolio, but you have to understand that this is a hack that short circuits the normal expense handling code of the simulation. Also, if you're taking the withdrawal from a tax deferred account, you'll need to create a separate expense ...

Re: Inflation Adjustment Question
The thing I don't understand for sure is if your setup has inflation hitting your overall portfolio balance. I get that you're inflating expenses in additional inputs, but inflation also diminishes the real value of the portfolio each year as well and I can't tell for sure if you've covered this in ...

Re: Inflation Adjustment Question
You understood me perfectly and you confirmed for me that I had it right the first time with Inflation set to zero on the Summary page and the COLA Types set to Fixed COLA. The only caveat I'd add is that I when suggested setting inflation to 0% on the main page, that was only for testing purposes,...

Re: Inflation Adjustment Question
If I understand you correctly, I think you can just use Fixed COLA at 10%. That results in the expense getting inflated at 10% starting in the first year of the plan and every year after that, regardless of when the actual start year of the expense. You can try it out and check the detailed view to ...

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
Roth Conversions don't create any income cash flows since they just involve a transfer of funds between the tax deferred and tax free portfolios. I can see how it might be desirable for the taxable income column to show something more like "total taxable income from all sources," but that'...

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
Man. Sorry for all the headache on this. I believe that's a separate macos/java bug that can be fixed by giving Java permission to access your local file system (in particular the folder where the file is stored). The trick is that Java itself needs permission, not frp.jar. I believe you can enable ...

Re: Modeling Roth conversions
You don't need to associate the frp.jar with the .frp file to get it to work. As long as you can get Java to launch frp.jar, once it opens you can then open your .frp file. After you open the .frp file the first time, the program will automatically remember the last file you opened and open it next ...
