Re: Possible Defect: Sensitivity Analysis with Life Expectan

Jim,

The error message does provide some additional pointers to the possible error, "Sensitivity Parameters," so I think that would have helped. This approach seems reasonable given the current/past end user experience with your tool.

Possible Defect: Sensitivity Analysis with Life Expectancy

Hello, When using this great tool I ran into an issue running a sensitivity analysis using life expectancy as a parameter. I did not see anything on the website so decided to report this possible defect. Hopefully this is not a known issue already. I'm using version 4.01.02. I found that a run of se...

should annual retirement spending increase due to inflation?

I have a question regarding your website.

http://www.flexibleretirementplanner.com

Shouldn’t the annual retirement spending, shown on the detailed view, grow with inflation? (rather than stay a constant value)

Using the planner to evaluate long term care policies

Jim, I just stumbled upon your website while surfing and googling for information on Monte Carlo simulations for retirement planning. In particular, I am now struggling with the issue of whether long-term care insurance is a good "investment" instead of self-insuring via additional savings...

Re: Questions about how taxable investments are taxed...

Thank you for making that change so quickly! I'v had a look at the new one and the results are consistent with the change. I obviously can't easily check it in detail but I ran a test using only the taxable account and the median portfolio balance was significantly higher than the current version us...

Re: Questions about how taxable investments are taxed...

Thanks for the info Jim. Just one point on the taxation of investments. Wouldn't your method significantly over tax investements? Because of volaitlity returns are often negative -- they go up and down with a drift upwards at the average rate of return and the higher the volatility the more often an...

Questions about how taxable investments are taxed...

Jim, I have a couple of questions about the way taxable investments are taxed. Firstly you say portfolio gains each year are taxed by the specified tax rate (eg 15%). Given that a significant percentage of these gains could be capital gains which would only be taxed when the investment is sold, is t...

Evaluating and annuity (SPIA) with the planner

Dear Jim, I've followed your web-article suggestion and used the flexible planner for evaluating an SPIA with inflation protection. I'd appreciate your comments on how I've used the planner to take into account certain limitations in my figures. This option could mean that my fixed-income sources wi...

A question about social security and inflation

When one uses the social security additional input, should you use today's dollars or include inflation effects when entering in this value?
Thanks,
