Re: Mysterious Taxable Portfolio
There's an option in settings that determines whether Required Minimum Distributions are taken out of tax deferred accounts. If the Take RMDs option is enabled, each year starting at age 70 the required minimum distribution is withdrawn from the tax deferred portfolio and used to fund spending for t...

Re: Setting - Min/Max
Yeah, the way the light works can be confusing. The yellow light signifies that spending was reduced to less than 80% at some point during retirement. If you set the minimum to 80%, you won't see the yellow light. In the case you describe, the plan is very robust and doesn't really need the reductio...

Re: Investing Style
The links below are somewhat random (from google), but they show some model portfolios along with historical return and standard deviations. http://www.ifa.com/portfolios/ http://www.aaii.com/asset-allocation One thing to be aware of is that rate of return is tightly coupled with the inflation rate ...

Re: Investing Style
Hello, Your question is a good one and gets right to the heart of one of the biggest challenges in using this type of tool. No one really knows what the future will bring in terms of the return/standard deviation that we're likely to experience over the next 20-30 years. The values associated with t...

Re: Printing issues
Here are a couple of suggestions. 1) See if there are any resolution settings that you can adjust for the printer in the print properties window. I've seen cases where for some reason the printout doesn't look right when the resolution is set to 300, but it looks perfect at 600. Unfortunately, this ...

FRP version 3.0 released with 'Sensitivity Analysis' feature
Originally release date for Version 3.0 was 05/12/2012 I just posted a new version of the planner with a brand new feature called sensitivity analysis. The sensitivity analysis feature uses the standard inputs that you entered into the planner and lets you select two input parameters for further ana...

Re: Planner launch takes me to Oracle
Hello,
Thanks for your question. The planner requires Oracle's Java plugin to be installed in your browser. The launch page checks if Java is installed, and if it isn't, you're automatically redirected to Oracle's website where you can get the latest version of Java.

Re: conservative spending assumptions
I'm new to the site, but am impressed already. I have a very simple question for which I haven't found an explanation. Re the flexible spending option, your support says "Basically, in any year where the portfolio shrinks and the portfolio balance is smaller than it was at the start of retirem...

Re: New Investment Increases
All of the outputs from the simulation are shown in today's value dollars rather than in inflated dollars. My feeling is that displaying the outputs in constant value dollars makes it easier to interpret and understand the results.
Hope that helps,
