Re: A new FRP standalone version is coming soon...

The next window is the "history view". This is an expanded version of the history table from the summary view. This view lets you compare the results of simulation runs that you've completed. As you click on different runs in the table at the bottom of the screen, the data for that run is ...

Re: A new FRP standalone version is coming soon...

This screenshot shows the detailed view. Aside from some re-layout, the other new thing here is the ability to show/hide columns of the table and to export and print the table. Also, you can change the active scenario at the top of the window and the simulation results for the selected scenario will...

Re: A new FRP standalone version is coming soon...

Here's a screenshot of the main view of the new application. You can see most of the new things here including the open/save and the scenarios. A scenario is basically a set of input values with a name. When you save a data file, all of the scenarios that you've built are included with it. If you cl...

Beta testing is in progress on the new FRP standalone version . This version of the planner can be downloaded to your computer and run without internet access. An official release date hasn't been announced, but it is expected to be within a month or two. Here's a quick list of the features in the n...

Great. thanks.

I didn't realize that the build date didn't make it onto the help->about window. I added it so it'll be there next time.

Re: Bug Found in downloaded beta program?

Doug, I think I found the issue. Your list of steps to reproduce was fantastic. The bug was that if you delete the first scenario, while it is active (in the main panel), and while there is only one other scenario, I accidentally left a variable set to 1 that should have been 0. Easy fix. I hope tha...

Re: should annual retirement spending increase due to inflation?

Thanks for writing about the planner. The quick answer to your question is that it should grow, and in fact it does. Let me explain.... Basically, all dollar amounts displayed in the planner are shown in "today's value" dollars no matter which year they occur. Internally, inflation is cert...

Re: Using the planner to evaluate long term care policies

Thanks for the note. I've actually thought about adding an option to simulate possible expenses of long term care, but haven't gotten to it. For now, you can directly model the expenses of long term care to see how it would affects the plan. Unfortunately, you can't do it probabilistically (ie. the ...

Re: Questions about how taxable investments are taxed...

The approach I took on taxes was intended to produce more conservative results, but you make a compelling case and I've changed the planner to treat investment taxes more symmetrically as you suggest. I'm always reluctant to make a change that will impact results so much, but I think the case for it...
