Re: Qs on Taxes and Expenses

1. Is the amount of Taxes on the Taxable Portfolio set by the "Investment Tax Rate" OR "Income Tax Rate"? Investment tax rate 2. This above rate is applied to the Taxable Portfolio amount each year, correct? The rate is applied to all gains on the taxable portfolio each year. Th...

Re: Roth Conv taxes

Yeah, that screenshot shows a way to manually simulate a Roth conversion by using three separate transactions. I'm guessing the comment about using an other expenses cash flow for taxes was also referring to the manual method as well. It still works fine to do it that way, but now that there's a spe...

Re: Seeking specificity around Flexible spending policy

I understand the Planner is trying to mimic how people are likely to behave, and that it's not strictly prescriptive, yet I think it's necessary for me to think and act like the Planner to some degree, or else the plan and reality won't match up well. It sounds like you have a good understanding of...

Re: Seeking specificity around Flexible spending policy

When I look at my plan, percent of expenses funded is pegged at 100% for the entire plan duration. It's a bit unusual for the percent of expenses funded to be pegged at 100% for the whole plan unless the spending policy is set to stable or conservative or you've set a ceiling value of 100% in setti...

The comparisons are all made using real values.

Re: Updating to newest FRP version

To update the program on windows, just download the latest version from the frp website and click on the downloaded installer executable. There's no need to uninstall the old version. The only caveat with this the old version of the program can't be running during the install process (say in the bac...

Re: Roth Conv taxes

The simulation logic adds the taxes due on any roth conversion done in a given year to the amount of expenses that need to be funded for that year. Then the normal expense funding/withdrawal order logic is used fund the expenses.

Re: Entire Portfolio Rate of Return

One last thing. I'm assuming you've already set up the detailed view window to show all of the possible columns. Just in case you haven't, this is done by selecting the "show more detail" radio button in the detailed view, then right clicking on any column header and selecting "show a...

Re: Entire Portfolio Rate of Return

When I export all of the detailed data, do you know of a way that I can use certain growth numbers that may be contained in any of the output as part of a rate of return calculation for each year of the plan? I can't see a way to get there with the info that's available. If your goal is to verify/e...
