Best Practice for New Year
Happy New Years, everyone. Is there a best practice to starting a new year in FRP? I'll copy previous file to a 2021 version, just in case, but then I'm guessing about what to change. Some things are obvious (I hope): - Current Age will go up by 1 year. - Taxable, Tax Deferred and Tax Free portfolio...

Re: reduced expected return
This is an area where sensitivity analysis might be helpful. There's an option in sensitivity analysis to have one sensitivity parameter be return and the other one be standard deviation (I think it's the last item in the drop down). This should give you a visual display of how your plan fares unde...

Re: Asset Allocation Models - Return and Standard Deviation
Target2019 - I mistakenly thought you were the OP. I just realized you're something of a regular around here. Double thanks for jumping into this thread with such a great answer. - Jim I may be an OP, but I am not the OP! The Simba Backtesting sheet has always seemed useful since one can farm the d...

Re: Asset Allocation Models - Return and Standard Deviation
You're welcome, Jim and others. I downloaded version 19d of the spreadsheet and set it to 35/15/45/5 (US/Intl/TBM/Cash) -- my version of 50/50 allocation. Nominal growth 1970-2019 was 8.72%. Real growth (after inflation) was 4.63%. Being a pessimist I am using Real growth *and* inflation of 3% in FR...

Re: Asset Allocation Models - Return and Standard Deviation
Below is URL for a thread and link to historical backtesting spreadsheet. https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2520 The tab named Analyze_Portfolio will give you CAGR and STDEV for a custom portfolio you specify. Just realized the download link at top of the linked thread is not...

Re: FRP Taxes (Need to Compute Taxes Paid each Year)
@target2019, I ended up adding the extra tax columns that I mentioned above. I plan to release the updated version in the next week or so, but if you send an email to info@flexibleRetirementPlanner.com I can send you a download link for the beta version. Thanks, Jim. Your response to problem areas ...

Re: FRP Taxes (Need to Compute Taxes Paid each Year)
Gatorbyter, In my additional inputs I have an entry for $55K Misc Income. It is set to 100% taxable. The tax on that amount is not picked up by the formula you mention. The amount does show up in the column "After Tax Income" so I'd expect a tax estimate would be picked up by your formula....

Re: FRP Taxes (Need to Compute Taxes Paid each Year)
If you have After Tax Income that is sourced from Additional Inputs, I'm thinking those amounts are reduced by Income Tax before being summed.
Maybe I'm wrong?

Re: Secure Act
fyi, there's a new version of the planner that changes the default RMD start age to 72 and also allows the start age to be configured in settings. This new version number is 4.03.01 and it's available for download here: https://www.flexibleretirementplanner.com/wp/download/ (you can check your curr...

Re: Secure Act
RMD would be better as configurable. Some have started RMD, and some will start RMD at 72.
I thought I could over-ride things, by setting Min IRA/401k Withdrawal Age to 72, but that is not the case.
