simulate change of investing style over time

Post by Syner01 »

is there a way to simulate a change of investing style over time? for instance i am aggressive early in accumulation but change to moderate risk as i get within x amount of years to retirement and finally move below average risk and risk adverse in my spending and later years...

You can do this in the upper table of the additional inputs window.

Select the "Portfolio Return" rate type, put in a start and end year from the drop down boxes, then enter a return and standard deviation for the range of plan years indicated. The table doesn't use the named investing styles, but you can enter the return/standard deviation that corresponds to the investing style you want for each entry.

The entries in that table override the Investing Style you select on the main input page for the specific years in the range you specify.

After you run the planner, be sure to double check the year-by-year detailed view table to make sure the planner is using the values you expect for each year of the plan.
