Scenarios

Post by mallen531 »

Jim,

I really like the program and have been running multiple scenarios. But, I noticed that when I save a scenario and then re-pull it up that the name of the saved scenario does not match the scenario name that is found in the viewing box in the upper right hand corner. I have to go into the drop box and select the scenario that I wanted.

mallen531,

I'm glad you're finding the planner helpful and thanks for posting the question.

I suspect the behavior you describe is because the program always selects the first scenario found in the file at startup time. The program doesn't remember the last scenario you used. If the first scenario in the file is one that you don't care about, you can delete it and any other 'extra' scenarios by clicking on the "Manage..." button next to the scenario name on the main window. Then only valid scenarios with your custom inputs will be stored in the file.

This is just a guess about what's going on, so please let me know if this explains what you're seeing. If it doesn't, it would help to know the names and order of all the scenarios that you see when you click the "Manage..." button next to the scenario name.

Jim,

I went back and deleted ALL files except a 62 and 66 scenario. I noticed that what I see in the upper right hand scenario box does not match the title of the folder on the horizontal above the work sheet. I am not sure if one can send a photograph on this blog?

But, I did notice that the 66 scenario doesn't really look correct and is not showing any monies left when there definitely should be?

I'm a little confused by your last post. You say you deleted all files, but I suspect you meant you deleted all scenarios.

The scenario drop down controls which scenario is active and when you select a different scenario, the inputs on the main screen, in additional inputs, and in settings should be filled with the saved values from the selected scenario. If you select the detailed view tab, you'll see the results for the selected scenario, as long as you've hit 'run' for that scenario before.

It might be easiest to continue this over email using info@flexibleRetirementPlanner.com. Perhaps you could send the .frp file you're having trouble with. Before sending any .frp files, please remove all personal information and change the portfolio values and income/expense amounts so that your personal information won't be at risk because email is inherently insecure.

Jim, I figured out what I had done wrong. All is fine. Having fun playing around with different scenarios and learning the software. Thanks. Mike
