Bond Portfolio Spreadsheet

Post by gc8275 »

After entering bonds over the years, it is difficult to find bonds. Is it possible to sort the bond input sheet by maturity date without creating problems with the macros in the other sheets. By sorting by maturity date, the bond portfolio sheet also sorts by maturity date . It seems to work OK but I want to make sure before savng the sort.

To be completely honest, it's been so long since I've looked at that spreadsheet that I'm just not sure. I know for sure that using cut, insert, and delete in the input sheet messes with the formulas on the main sheet. It seems like sorting shouldn't be a problem but I can't be sure.

If you need to prune out bonds not held anymore or make big updates to the table, I think you can copy all the info from the input sheet to a scratchpad sheet, edit it as needed, then paste just the values back into the input sheet, including up to 500 extra blank rows to clear out any unused entries. Obviously, you'd want to test this out with a backup sheet just in case something goes horribly wrong, but that should work since pasting values shouldn't mess with the structure of the input sheet or the formulas on the main sheet that reference the input sheet.
