One of the inspirations for the calculator was recent research that suggests that retirees who manage their retirement spending in response to their portfolio’s performance may be able to safely draw from their portfolio at higher rates than previously thought. Another important capability of this planner is its ability to help you experiment with different scenarios that might affect your retirement. For example, you can simulate what might happen if you’re hit with a series of large medical or long term care expenses in the later years of retirement. Also, you can simulate a stock market crash in the early years of retirement. The list goes on; What if Social Security goes bust? What if tax rates go up?
